A great website for the beginning webmaster is The Site Wizard. This site has advice and tutorials that help with all stages of web development including picking the right domain name and hosting right up to search engine optimization (SEO) and using advanced scripts. “The Site Wizard,” don’t forget the “the,” covers the advantages and disadvantages of all kinds of web development software. He covers web page authoring software, blogging software, html editors, photo editors, and more. The site features a host of tips on web promotion and increasing website revenue.

The Site Wizard is not only a great place to start for those just entering the world of web design, it’s also a valuable resources for the intermediate and advanced. The tutorials include troubleshooting and work-arounds for known issues with popular software and a just a host of useful web authoring tools.

My eyes have been opened. If you’ve ever felt stuck in your thinking regarding the use of CSS in web design take a visit to the CSS Zen Garden. At this time I still consider myself more of a graphic artist than a coder. As such, I couldn’t help but feel a bit “boxed in” by cascading style sheets. The CSS Zen Garden is a living display of how to get one’s thinking outside all those boxes. At the Zen Garden one can load one of many style sheets in order to see how the various css styles affect the display of the same html. The range of styles on display at CSS Zen Garden certainly make the site quite browse-worthy.

Autumn Blue Jeans is my first free WordPress theme. I thought a free WordPress theme would make for a good first post. I like the ideals behind opensource projects. I will post more free Wordpress themes as I have time. I may also post free themes for other blogging platforms.

I was thinking of blue jeans, suede and autumn leaves when I designed it. Autumn Blue Jeans has a fixed-width layout. There are two columns with the sidebar on the right. This theme is widget-ready and it is Google adsense ready — just look for the comments that direct you as to where to place your adsense code. The adsense code spot is at the top of the theme.
